Sintra & beyond

The location of Quinta da Matalva is perfect for discovering Sintra (6 minutes away by car, or a lovely 20 minute walk). The fishing village of Cascais is also nearby, and Lisbon is under an hour away. For golf fanatics there are several excellent courses in the vicinity and the wonderful white sandy beaches of Praia Grande and Praia das Macas are perfect for those who want to jump the waves, top up the tan and enjoy some fresh grilled fish.  Click here to see more about beaches and golf.

Historic Sintra

The historic sites of Sintra are plentiful and stunning so make sure you have a good guide book to take you through the fascinating history and sites.  These include Sintra National Palace, Monserate Palace, Quinta da Regaleira and Convento dos Capuchos.

Portugese Towns

Apart from Sintra, the nearby small towns of Estoril and Cascais are worth a visit (20 -25 mins by car). A day trip to Lisbon is strongly recommended (40 mins by car, depending on traffic).
